Open top or zipper tote: how do you reach inside?

Think about the moment someone uses your tote: setting it beside a chair, reaching for one item, or filling it for the day. The opening changes that small routine. Here are two real bag formats to help you picture the choice.

The short answer

An open rim gives direct access; a top zip adds a closure across the main opening. Check pocket closures separately, then compare the opening and handles with the items your customers will carry. FH-103 and FH-090 show two different starting formats.

Two examples from the range

FH-103: an open upper rim above mesh sides and base.

FH-090: a zip runs along the main opening beneath the slim handles.

An open rim keeps the contents in view

An open-top tote lets you reach through the upper rim without undoing a closure. FH-103 has a rectangular mesh body, straight bound corners and long matching handle loops. There is no lid or drawcord across the photographed opening. The mesh sides and base also leave the inside visible. For a carry-and-storage range, those are two separate design choices: an open mouth for access, and mesh for the body. You can discuss the opening without having to adopt the same material.

A top zip closes the main opening

FH-090 takes a different direction. Two slim shoulder handles sit above a pale canvas body, with a zip along the top and a broad printed front. The close photo shows where that zip meets the upper edge. To reach the main space, you open that closure first; when you finish, the mouth can be zipped closed. Compare the open and closed positions with the contents you have in mind. The shape of the usable opening matters as much as the outline of the bag.

Check which part each closure belongs to

A zip on the front pocket does not close the main compartment. The two openings may be used for different items, so look at the top and pockets individually. FH-107, for example, has a main zip and a separate front pocket with snap pieces. Its short and longer handle loops also give you a different carrying arrangement from FH-090. For your sample, try taking out the item used most often, then filling and closing the main space. That makes the opening decision concrete.

Develop the opening with the handle and artwork

Once you have a direction, share the intended contents and how you want the tote carried. Our pattern room can discuss the upper panels, handle length and any lining or pocket with you. A free design image shows the artwork beside those details, so a handle or folded edge does not become an afterthought. Your representative keeps the selected body, opening and decoration in one sample brief. Send your tote idea, quantity and preferred arrival date; we can prepare a proposal around the range you want to offer.

Questions about this choice

Questions about tote openings

Is a zipped pocket the same as a zip-top tote?

No. A pocket zip closes that pocket. A zip-top tote has a zip across its main opening. FH-107 shows this distinction with a main zip and a separate front snap pocket.

Can we develop a zipped version from an open-tote idea?

Share the reference, intended contents and preferred handles. The pattern room can review the upper panels and opening with you, then bring the agreed construction into the sample brief. A zip is considered with the complete body and lining.
